I don’t know if he messed with the time-space continuum, but something out of this world happened: I got an apartment. Say what? An Apartment! After seven years I finally got one and I’m SO thrilled!

Yes, it’s rental. They painted the walls lime green. It’s way over budget. On the eleventh floor (help…) and located in what they refer to as a ‘project neighbourhood’.

But…it also has three bedrooms (That’s. Right. Bitches.). A great view. (HELP!) And it’s close to the elementary school I signed my son up for. And it’s MINE, ALL MINE!

…I’m here. Kind of. I feel bad for not taking better care of my blog lately but I’ve been feeling rather down. Or stressed out. I can’t tell the difference sometimes.

My son has been ill for weeks now, sometimes he feels better for a few days, then something else strikes. Flu, infections, fever, the whole package. I feel awful because he feels awful and at the same time life goes on. I feel inadequate, as a mum and as the owner of my business. I cannot for the life my figure out a way to combine the two in situations like these, without going nuts.

This week I was so frustrated with myself, I figured why not just write it down. If anything, it won’t make it worse. I wrapped up some deadlines and hired some people to do the rest, so I can breathe. Maybe I’ll try some painting this weekend but I’m not sure. All my artistic confidence a few weeks ago resulted in a number of unfinished works that I do not dare touch now because I simply lack the peace of mind.

I honestly apologize to everyone who emailed/called me and got no reply. I’m trying to catch up on my private emails, but I hope it’s understandable that work and house hunting are my main priorities right now.

Wrapped, Part V

We actually wanted to do this shoot in the Stairway To Heaven bar, but being the proper rock cafe that it is, it turned out to be too dark inside.

Determined to find the perfect spot for our glamrock-meets-babywearing-shoot we toured around town, untill we came across Tivoli. Tivoli? Tivoli! Before we had babies, and every-hour-feedings, and poopy diapers and other things that lovingly take over our life, we used to spend many mad nights in Tivoli.

And so the beautiful baby boy Julian had to be patient while mommy checked out the upcoming events and artists. And I just shot some great photo’s.

The fourth shoot, with Nathalie, got a little complicated when the weather decided to get nasty, and my son refused to be in a wrap (I CAN WALK!).

Therefore Nathalie’s husband had to chase after my son, to prevent him from ending up in the canal, under a car or with his two feet in a pile of dog poop. Did I mention I love being in the park?

I’m not that thrilled about the quality of the photo’s, so we might have another take later this year.

The Flu

I used to think that my biggest problem was me getting sick, while facing a tight deadline. I remember those mornings, waking up after a few hours of sleep from a dream that inevidably involved that particular deadline. Feeling stiff, cold and dizzy. And thinking, “oh no…not the Flu…not Now…”.

I know better now.

Last week two burning hot little feet against my back wake me up. I look over my shoulder, and my baby boy looks at me with glassy eyes. He makes a strange whaling sound. He’s so hot that there’s damp on my glasses when I lean over towards him. He’s got the Flu.

Thank God I don’t have any client meetings or Skype conferences this week. I only have three deadlines to make, and I’m thinking I’ll be alright as long as the boy can sleep on the couch downstairs, or in my bed while I paint and fight my daily battles with Magento templates.

The boy however, disagrees. He settles himself on top of me, tells me (yes TELLS me) to lay down, puts his face in my neck and two hands in my hair and falls asleep. I pull my laptop closer to me, and for the next three hours I try to get something done with one hand and a painful neck.

And as time is ticking away, I grow increasingly agitated. I don’t know how to explain this to people and I don’t know if I should. I work in an industry where time is crucial and not really up for discussion. An industry where you can’t always afford to lose clients.

I hate feeling this way.

Babywearing walk-about-town

Some lovely ladies from the D&V forum organized a babywearing walk today, and a lot of people showed up despite the awful weather. I took some pictures, but I was a little nervous shooting with so many people I didn’t know that well. It was a lovely day ladies, thanks for that!

Wrapped, Part II

Here is the second fotoshoot we did, last week. The beautiful baby boy was so tired he actually fell asleep in the wrap (a first!) so I had to take a picture. There’s nothing better than sleeping babies in wraps.

This week I have three (oh Lord…) shoots planned, and a babywearing-walk-about-town to attend. So if you’re in Utrecht and see a large group of people with babies in wraps; that’s us.
